The suitable operating environment for power distribution switchgear and control equipment varies depending on the equipment's construction and protection rating. Generally, such equipment is best suited for installation in dry, well-ventilated areas free from significant corrosive gases. The installation site must provide sufficient space for personnel to perform operations, inspections, and maintenance, while also protecting the equipment from rain, dust, and other external elements.

Ambient temperature is another critical factor affecting the normal operation of power distribution switchgear. Excessively high temperatures can cause internal components to generate excessive heat, thereby shortening the service life of insulation materials and electrical components; conversely, excessively low temperatures may impair the functionality of certain equipment. Therefore, when selecting and installing equipment, the operating environment must align with the product's specified temperature range. In locations subject to significant temperature fluctuations, appropriate heat dissipation or thermal insulation measures should be implemented.

In specialized environments-such as factory workshops, underground facilities, or outdoor substations-the air may contain high levels of dust, moisture, or corrosive substances. These factors can compromise the insulation performance of the switchgear and the proper functioning of its mechanical components. Consequently, equipment with appropriate protection ratings must be selected for such environments, accompanied by effective dust-proofing, moisture-proofing, and anti-corrosion measures. Equipment intended for outdoor use must also feature adequate protection against rain and sun exposure.

The installation site for power distribution switchgear should offer good grounding conditions and be free from intense vibration or severe mechanical shock. For specialized locations characterized by high temperatures, high humidity, heavy dust, or corrosive gases, specially designed power distribution equipment must be selected based on specific site conditions. Only by selecting equipment suited to the environmental conditions-and ensuring proper installation and maintenance-can the long-term, safe, and stable operation of the power distribution switchgear be guaranteed.
