Power distribution switchgear and control equipment primarily consist of components such as switchgear assemblies, busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors (isolating switches), and protection and metering devices. While structural differences exist among various types of distribution equipment, these components collectively perform functions such as power distribution, circuit control, and safety protection. Circuit breakers and disconnectors are among the most common core components.

Circuit breakers are primarily used to make and break circuits, controlling the flow of electricity under normal operating conditions. In the event of faults such as short circuits or overloads, the circuit breaker-under the control of protection devices-can rapidly interrupt the fault current, thereby protecting the circuit and other electrical equipment. Common types include air circuit breakers, molded-case circuit breakers, and vacuum circuit breakers, with different types suited to specific voltage levels and applications.

Disconnectors are primarily used to reliably isolate a circuit from the power source during equipment maintenance. Generally, they are not designed to interrupt high fault currents but operate in conjunction with circuit breakers. During maintenance, the circuit is first interrupted according to established procedures; the disconnector is then used to create a visible break point, allowing personnel to easily verify that the equipment is isolated from the power source and enhancing safety during maintenance work.

In addition to the switching components, busbars, instrument transformers, relay protection devices, and metering instruments are also vital components. Busbars are responsible for collecting and distributing electrical energy; current and voltage transformers convert high currents and voltages into signals suitable for metering and protection; and relay protection devices monitor the operating status of the circuit and issue protection signals when a fault occurs. These components work together to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power distribution system.
